The Engine Shed is now closed. We have left these original pages of the website as a record of our work.
What Parents Say
The parents or carers of our trainees are very much part of the whole Engine Shed experience and their involvement is crucial to the overall success of the process. We involve parents as much as possible, including inviting them to attend the initial interview where we assess their son or daughter as a potential trainee as well as the individual annual review meetings we hold throughout the training period.
Parents of young people with learning disabilities want their children to become as independent as possible but naturally worry about them being vulnerable. Our long experience has taught us how to create a secure and positive environment for these young people that ultimately benefits not just them but their families too.
A Letter from a Parent
One of the parents of a trainee wrote a letter to the City of Edinburgh councillors to explain why she thought the Engine Shed was such a good service for her son and why it should continue alongside other sorts of provision.
